My Birthday in Disneyland

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

I don’t remember when I first saw Mickey Mouse and the gang when I was still a little girl. I just fell in love with these cute animated characters ever since. As I was growing up, I saw them as mascots on TV and that they lived in Disneyland in Orlando, Florida. Mickey Mouse always has this fascinating effect not only on kids but on grown-ups as well. So, I promised myself that I would go to Disneyland someday. I didn’t know when. I didn’t know how (I sound like Ariel of The Little Mermaid, I know. Haha!). It was just a wishful thinking of a kid. I was thinking of my approaching birthday last year when I decided to celebrate it in Disneyland in Hongkong. It was just a spur of the moment decision and I quickly asked my sisters, the twins to come along with me. Being travel buffs, they immediately said yes. It’s amazing it’s already been a year. I’m a year older again today. I couldn’t explain the feeling when I set foot in Disneyland. It was a long-time dream of a little girl that came true. So, donning the Mickey Mouse headband, my sisters and I started our trudge on the happiest and most magical place on earth. By the way, we took the train from Sunny Bay Station to Disneyland Resort Station.

I started to take the Iron Man Experience ride in Tomorrowland. It’s a 4D ride that takes you to the streets of Hongkong. Unfortunately, I got dizzy and became unwell after that ride so I ended up just waiting for my sisters as they tried almost all of the rides inside the park. I think the most extreme rides they took were the Hyperspace Mountain in Star Wars and the RC Racer Roller in Toy Story Land.

We didn’t see much of the Disney princesses in Fantasyland. We came to the park quite late and there were already a lot of tourists so there were a lot of queues for the rides and the photo ops with the Disney characters. I suggest you come to the park early so you can avoid the long wait on rides and picture taking. But then again, Disneyland is always crowded as I noticed.

The highlight of the tour for me was the photo op with the characters. The most popular, of course, was Mickey Mouse. The queue was totally long and most of us were asked to come back later. It’s a good thing we were able to catch the iconic couple at the Grizzly Gulch. My sisters took the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars ride and they said it was awesome. You can try this one when you’re in Disneyland. Another highlight was meeting Chewbaca in the flesh and hearing him roar. Yes, I’m a Star Wars fan. :) We also enjoyed Mickey’s Philhar Magic.

But of course, you don’t want to miss the Flights of Fantasy Parade in the afternoon at the Main Street of the park. It is one of their highlights and of course, the Disney Paint the Night Parade and the most awaited attraction at the end of the day, their magical fireworks. It’s just so sad they already put an end to it. I think it’s something that you really don’t want to miss.

I think Disneyland in Hongkong is not really that vast like Disneyland in Tokyo, Orlando or Paris but you won’t still finish roaming the park in a day. Here are some friendly tips when you want to visit the park:

  1. Go there as early as possible to avoid long queues for the rides and photo ops.

  2. You can’t finish the tour around the park in one day. I suggest you check in to Disneyland Hotel for even one night and enjoy Disneyland park for 2 days.

  3. If you have kids with you, please look out for them all the time. Don’t leave them unattended. I’ve heard some horrific stories of kids getting abducted. Yes, even in Disneyland.

  4. If you want to buy souvenirs, better do it earlier in the day. Don’t wait later in the evening because they will let you rush and you can’t choose and buy well what you want.

  5. Don’t get shocked with the price inside the park. It’s really expensive. I really got shocked. :)

The fireworks show really left us speechless and very emotional. We literally cried. It was really a dream come true for us. We left Disneyland late in the evening with a very happy heart. I have finally ticked it off my bucket list. ♪♪A whole new world That's where we'll be A thrilling chase A wondrous place For you and me ♪♪

Thank you, Disneyland. It was a magical moment indeed.
